What can I say, I’ve got the bug! Michelle and Patrick Dowd of Broad Run Vizslas have been the greatest friends. We spent a lot of time visiting with and talking to them about the things that they were doing with their dog Zeke. At that time, we had only participated in junior level AKC Hunt Tests with Zoë. As the Dowd's began to develop an interest in the competitive sport of Field Trialing, I followed along with their second Vizsla Blaze. It was very exciting! Each week Blaze and her littermates would do some amazing stuff at field trials, and I got to hear all about it. After a while, I wanted to also take part in those experiences with my own field dog. Lucky for me, Michelle and Patrick chose to breed Blaze in 2005.
Michelle invited me to participate in the whelping process. In October of 2005, Blaze was ready to have her first babies! Michelle called and I drove up. That was a long night! Blaze and Michelle did wonderfully! I took notes and helped weigh each pup and took lots of pictures! Maybe one day one of us will post the narrative of that night. I can’t remember everything I wrote, but I seem to recall that some of it was rather funny as I was ‘punch drunk’ with tiredness - the last pup, Greta, was born after midnight! Greta has just recently whelped a beautiful litter of 5 (1 boy/4 girls) by DC Fieldstone's Remington Ammo MH of Huntmore Vizslas.
Tess has been competitive in field trials since six months of age. She completed her Puppy/Derby career as the #2 dog on the VCA Puppy/Derby Top Ten list! Her two littermates Greta and Boone were #1 and #3, respectively. She and I have been learning about this field training thing together.
Tess was bred to Topper in March of 2009 and delivered a beautiful litter of 6 puppies on May 11, 2009; of which I kept her one and only son, Reece. Be sure to check the Puppies page for the history of that litter.
I haven’t run her in any Gun Dog Stakes myself yet, but we’re really excited about getting back out there and having fun!
